Gibraltar to host MedCruise Annual General Assembly after record-breaking 2016

Total of 224 cruise calls and 425,845 passengers last year

GIBRALTAR will host this year’s MedCruise Annual General Assembly after a record-breaking 2016 for the port.

A total of 224 calls were made, 425,845 passengers visiting in total, a year-on-year increase of 9.8% and 17.78%.

The annual MedCruise assembly, which will take place from June 4 to 17, brings together cruise line executives and MedCruise member ports.

The group will discuss the latest developments in the cruise industry.

Representatives from The Rock are currently participating in the Seatrade Cruise Global  convention in Fort Lauderdale.

Gilbert Licudi, Minister for Tourism and the Port, said: “Gibraltar continues to build on the success of the Rock’s cruise industry.

“Gibraltar continues to grow as a port of call destination in the Mediterranean,

with 2017 expected to be another busy year.”

This year will see visits by the Norwegian Joy, Majestic Princess, Celebrity Reflection and Seabourn Encore.

There will also be twenty calls by the Panorama II of Variety Cruises, which makes its

inaugural call on May 17.
