A MULTI-MILLION-EURO scheme hopes to stop forest fires.

More than 2 million has been dedicated by the Junta to the Campo de Gibraltar to better safeguard thousands of hectares of open space and the people who live there.

The Los Barrios has received the biggest investment of 857,062, with Tarifa, San Roque, Castellar and Jimena also to benefit.

Most of the money will be spent on workers, who will create and improve firebreaks and clear trees from certain areas.
