golfA GIBRALTARIAN boy has won the European Golf Championships.

Sebastian Desoisa saw off 75 international competitors from 50 different countries to claim the prestigious title in the aged 10 category.

The three-day event played at Craigelaw Golf, East Lothian, Scotland, is organised by the U.S Kids Golf group every year.

This is the third year that Sebastian has participated in the European Championships in Scotland.

Last time out, Desoisa suffered heartbreak at the tournament in Gullane, missing out on the title by one shot.

However, this time things went the other way, with Desoisa seeing off Italian Giovanni Binaghi by the same margin.

His second round score of 71 was the best of the week, and his total of 218 ensured he returns to Gibraltar a European Champion.

Speaking after his win, Desoisa said: “I would like to thank my coach because I wouldn’t have done it without them, and also my family.”

His success was also welcomed by the Gibraltan Government, with Chief Minister Fabian Picardo praising his accomplishments on social media.

He said: “Brilliant result for Gibraltarian Sebastian Desoiza.

“What a proud day for him, for his family, and for Gibraltar.”
