literary festivalBIG names will animate this year’s Gibunco Gibraltar International Literary Festival.

The first eight public figures set to appear have been announced, including former politician Ann Widdecombe, who wrote Sunday Times bestseller The Clematis Tree, and BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour presenter Dame Jenni Murray.

Others booked are Steve Westaby, a world-famous heart surgeon and Jem Poster and Sarah Burton, who have both taught creative writing at university level and be running the Only Connect writing workshop.

Tourist Minister Gilbert Licudi praised the lineup for the fifth annual festival, saying that the writers and professionals featured ‘clearly give an indication of the quality and variety we are to expect once again.’

“There is no doubt that the Government’s pledge to develop event-led tourism has produced an outstanding yearly feast of culture and education.” he added, before revealing that there are more guests to be announced for the October 20-23 event.
