bishopGIBRALTAR’S former bishop has died at the age of 74. 

Geoffrey Rowell, who died in the early morning of June 11, was often referred to as Bishop in Europe, and held his post on the Rock from 2001 – 2013.

He was commissioned at St Margaret’s, Westminster, and enthroned in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Gibraltar, on 1 November 2001.

He had previously worked as a lecturer at the University of Oxford after graduating from Cambridge with a PhD in Philosophy.

After his time in Gibraltar, Rowell retired and ministered as an assistant bishop in the Diocese of Chichester.
