Chief Minister of Gibraltar expresses support for Caribbean communities devastated by hurricane Irma

Fabian Picardo has expressed the importance of solidarity of all members of the UK Overseas Territories Association to ensure the UK fulfills its responsibilities in the Caribbean.

THE Chief Minister Fabian Picardo QC has written to all UK territories in the Caribbean that have been in the devastating pathway of Hurricane Irma.

These include separate letters to the Premier of the British Virgin Islands, the Chief Minister of Anguilla, the Premier of Turks and Caicos Islands and the Premier of Monserrat.

In his letters, Picardo stated that ensured the solidarity of all members of the UK Overseas Territories Association to ensure the UK fulfills its responsibilities following criticism that the UK government was too slow to react to the crisis.

Ministers authorised £32 million in emergency aid and dispatched a military task group.

Picardo said: “The thoughts of the Gibraltarians go out to you and to all the Caribbean communities that have been so badly affected by this terrible storm.”
