CARDIAC rehabilitation treatment in Gibraltar is set to be overhauled to cope with increasing demand.
Currently 12 patients are able to receive rehabilitation treatment but this figure is set to rise to 24 after lobbying from the Cardiac Association, a Gibraltarian charity.
A second specialist nurse will also be hired to treat patients.
Cardiac rehabilitation is the programme of exercise that helps individuals who have suffered a heart attack build the strength to adapt back to normal life.
Minister for Health, Neil Costa also revealed that regular patient reviews will take place to ensure high standards are maintained.
“Patients that are referred from GPs will have regular assessments done to make sure that their rehabilitation is gaged properly to their specific needs,” he said.
