REPRESENTATIVES from Gibraltar will attend the World Blockchain Forum in Miami next week in an attempt to raise awareness of the Rock as a leading fintech hub.
The party will be led by Paul Astengo, the Senior Executive at Gibraltar Finance and he will be joined from individuals working with distributed ledger technology (DLT) on the Rock.
The visit to Miami is expected to be the first of many similar trips this year, with the Gibraltarian government looking to take advantage of its recent DLT regulation to attract business.
“Gibraltar has rightly received significant international recognition for the trailblazing work undertaken in developing the world’s first DLT regulatory framework,” the Minister for Commerce, Albert Isola, told the Gibraltar Olive Press.
“The commencement of legalisation in early January 2018 was a very important milestone and effectively marked the start point of further targeted work promoting our jurisdiction.
“Pleasingly the interest seen in 2017 has already begun to translate into new license applications.”
Over 3,000 industry delegates are expected to attend the conference at the James L Knight Centre.
Speakers will include Brock Pierce, the Chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation and Patrick M. Byrne the CEO of Overstock.com, the first major online retailer to accept bitcoin as a form of payment.
The conference is expected to cover a wide range of topics from blockchain technology, to regulation, start-ups and Bitcoin and Ethereum.
