OWNERS of a Cadiz restaurant facing legal action after serving deadly tortillas have blamed TV show Masterchef.
The Grimaldi bar infected over 100 people with salmonella at the Carnival of Cadiz in 2016, with one person dying as a result.
But defence lawyer Felipe Melendez argued the chefs simply followed instructions from Masterchef on how to handle ingredients and prepare the dish.
The lawyer also referenced another TV show in which contestants were told how to cook tortillas de patatas de Betanzos, with the winner praised for their undercooked product.
Melendez has argued that his client is innocent despite the outbreak as they had simply followed instructions from so-called TV experts.
The case continues at the Court of First Instance No. 2 of Cádiz.
